Foam is a tool that turns a plain Markdown knowledge base into a queryable graph and a publishable website, working natively inside VS Code. It provides wikilinks, backlinks, block references, embeds, daily notes, templates and a graph visualization for organizing notes stored as local .md files. It also exposes the notes graph to AI agents (via foam-mcp) so tools like Claude Code and Cursor can traverse links, tags and backlinks rather than just search flat text. Foam is open source and MIT licensed, with no cloud service or subscription required.
