OpenToonz is a 2D animation production software based on 'Toonz', a program originally developed by Italy's Digital Video company and later customized by Studio Ghibli for use in its films. Dwango launched the OpenToonz open-source project with cooperation from Digital Video and Studio Ghibli. It is free to use for both commercial and non-commercial purposes, and its source code can be freely modified. The software includes tools for scanning, digital painting, and compositing tailored to real animation production workflows.
