VPaint
A glimpse into the future of Graphic Design and 2D Animation·vpaint.org
VPaint is an experimental prototype based on the Vector Graphics Complex, a technology developed by researchers at Inria and the University of British Columbia. It lets users create resolution-independent illustrations and animations using hand-drawn curves called edges instead of Bezier curves. It includes tools for free-form sketching, sculpting, painting with a paint bucket, and frame-by-frame 2D animation with onion skinning.

Features 15
- Adjustable radius of influence for sculpting
- Copy/paste elements between frames
- Faces track boundary edges so edits automatically update painted regions
- Free-form sketching with hand-drawn curves called edges
- Motion-paste with automatic inbetweening (CTRL+SHIFT+V)
- No eraser tool; undo (CTRL+Z) or delete selected objects instead
- Onion skinning to overlay adjacent animation frames
- Paint bucket tool to fill regions bounded by edges, creating faces
- Play/pause and frame navigation with spacebar and arrow keys
- Sculpting tool to push/smooth curves like ZBrush
- Snapping of edges to nearby edges with adjustable snap radius
- Split view into multiple views to edit different frames side by side
- Timeline for frame-by-frame animation
- Tracked junctions between edges preserved during editing
- Variable edge width via pen pressure or CTRL drag
