Docassemble is a free, open-source expert system that conducts guided web-based interviews and can assemble the answers into documents in PDF, RTF, or DOCX format. Interviews can also submit applications, direct users to resources, store input, or interact with APIs rather than producing a document. It was originally created by a lawyer/programmer to automate legal practice but is designed as a general-purpose platform usable in other fields.
